So you need a garden shed to keep your outdoor items decently sheltered. You’ve surfed around to see whats accessible, but you simply can’t obtain one that befits your wants. Well, thats no trouble. You can establish one yourself ,even if you’re not a carpenter. All that is compulsory is ,for you to conform to some quick and easy step by step plans, and you’ll have it constructed in no time.

Step One
Is to decide where you want to establish it. You require to have a indicated area plotted out before you start. What space you have available will decide the maximal size you can construct it.

Part two
Once you recognise your exact size its a effective idea to rough sketch what you require. There are numerous home improvement stores that you can take your sketch to. They’ll outline up your storage shed plan for you, corresponding to the specifications you provide them with. They will also provide you with a list of materials that you’ll want. By now, you’ll have the shed plans in your hand and they will provide you with a guide on how to execute each step.

Part Three
Purchase the materials you’ll need as outlined in your plan. its a good idea to have everything at hand so you dont have to keep running out for supplies once you begin building.

Step Four
You are now ready to start. Level your ground and prepare to set the grounding. You would have already determined if you are going to have a foundation as a wood plank floor or concrete slab type.

Step Five
Next comes the side walls. Set Up your items away that you’re going to use for this. It is superior to build the walls on the ground then lift them into place once they’re together. Just follow your guide for the how to instructions.

Step Six
Now its time to start work the roof. You will need to build your trusses. So build one and then use it as a template for the rest. Remember to constantly refer back to your guide on how to build up the trusses.

Step Seven
Your storage shed should now be taking on some form. Its time to build the end walls. How you do this will count on what you’ve took in your plans. Be sure to stay with your original plans.

Step Eight
Now you’re getting down to the closing steps. The trim is just as central as the rest of your structure. Its what gives it that finished look so dont try to cut on costs here.

Step Nine
Your last 2 steps are applying the shingles for the roof before treating the wood. This is a very important step so listen up: The wood must have some kind of protective coating on it to protect it from the elements and decomposition. This can be varnish, stains or paints whatever is your preference.

Step Ten
You’re finally done! All thats left is to sit back and admire your finished storage shed. If you hadnt built it yourself you might actually think it was a ready made shed bought from the store.

Protecting your fruit trees from pests in the summer time can be frustrating and seem to be an impossible task to accomplish. Doing so without pesticides or chemicals is even more so. Many people are scared by the prospect of using chemical pesticides, believing that they’ll infect the tree and its fruit. If done properly, however, this is rarely the case. You can get rid of pests using chemicals and not infect the tree or its fruit in the process.

If you’re using chemicals, you’re likely using a pump (atomizing) sprayer or a hose-mounted bottle sprayer. In either case, your technique is what will keep your trees healthy and safe.

Using a pump sprayer, you can more accurately determine the mix of chemicals and where the spray will land. On the down side, however, you won’t be able to spray as far and are more apt to get it on yourself. So wearing proper clothing that covers your body and a mask will keep you from inhaling the spray. You’ll also need a ladder and more maneuverability as you’ll be required to be much closer to the spray areas.

Using a hose-end sprayer, you’ll have longer range and wider coverage-including the top of the tree. However, you won’t have the accuracy and the mixture is absolutely dependent on water pressure, which you can’t easily regulate. The chemicals you buy to use this way are much more concentrated and need to be well-diluted in order to be safe. This means good water pressure. So if you’re going to spray and your water pressure seems low, wait and see if it improves later in the day or earlier in the morning.

When you actually spray with these devices, the object is the same: even coverage over all surfaces. The spray should not be dripping from the leaves, but every surface should get an application. A ladder can help you get to the harder-to-reach areas of the tree. Apply the spray evenly, moving it back and forth so you don’t hit the same spot twice.

With neem tree and other more massive trees, spraying of insecticide from the inside to the outside (trunk to leaf) is best and will ensure best coverage. Starting from the top and working down, you’ll be able to see where the spray has dripped down and avoid re-covering those areas. This also allows you to methodically cover all areas of the tree without question as to whether you’ve done a spot or not.

Once you’ve completed spraying, be sure to totally clean off your equipment to get any residues off of them and then thoroughly clean your clothes and yourself to make sure you’ve washed it off absolutely. Wash your clothes separately and in a small load so as to get as much water into the wash basin as possible, ensuring the chemicals are thoroughly rinsed away.

Finally, water the base of the tree and around it on the ground in a parameter slightly bigger than the tree’s spread. Soak the ground thoroughly to make sure all the chemicals which dripped down are heavily diluted. This keeps them from absorbing too readily into the tree itself, thus keeping your tree and its fruit healthy.

by Melissa Burgendy

We get the word “horticulture” from the Latin word, “hortus”, which means “garden”, and “cultura”, which means “cultivation”. Gardening is an art, and as with all art forms, there are a number of styles to select from.

The traditional garden is designed in the traditional 17th and 18th century French style, also known as the Baroque and Rococo periods. The gardens of the period were grand gardens, displays of wealth and authority, built by kings and members of the aristocracy to impress visitors. Inspired in part by ancient classical gardens, traditional French garden style is formal. Spanning level ground, these geometrically shaped gardens are very well planned out in regards to their design. The terraces that are often a feature of such gardens are artificially created, and elaborately designed stairs are included to link one terrace to another. Because of the largely flat topography, traditional French gardens use large sheets of water for their reflective qualities or as impressive, artificial fountain displays. Here you will find a list of the main components of traditional, formal, French garden design.

* Lawns are always contained in rectangular frames, surrounded by neat, boxed hedges.

* Flowerbeds are also geometrical in shape rectangular, oval or circular.

An important characteristic of formal gardens in France are Parterres. On the ground intricate geometric patterns are made using a variety of materials such as colored dirt, stones, gravel or flowers. Parterres are often lined with boxwood, lavender, or rosemary. Some parterres are particularly elaborate. These are known as parterres de broderies, or embroidery parterres. From the garden terraces the visitors can see the parterres.

* The water features are most often canals and huge pools. Most of these water fountains have engines to operate them.

* The French garden style included alles, or axes or rides, which were used for the walks and pathways and bordered by trees and neatly clipped hedges. Usually with a destination in mind, these paths may end at a type of garden ornament.

* French gardens feature many ornamental objects from statues and columns to birdbaths and sundials. These should be arranged symmetrically. For instance, at the end of an alley.

* Plants: The planting design is often based on color. Pastel colors are used predominantly in French gardens with touches of yellow and red, and a tiny lilac and blue. Ideally, gardeners should select plants that bloom all year round.

* Primarily French in origin, and available as an optional feature, Orangerie is a massive glass-enclosed room in the garden where you’ll find lemon, lime, and orange trees blooming during the cold winter months.

* Herb gardens are often included in traditional French gardens. The neat French garden style usually includes separate areas for a fruit garden, a rose garden and sometimes a herb garden too. Herb gardens can actually be integral components of a well-planned garden. Paving is used in a specific pattern a chessboard pattern or a circular pattern, laid out like the spokes of a wheel. Places to rest are in places where you can see the beauty of a garden. Rosemary, sage, lavender, marjoram, sweet bay and thyme are herbs that are very common in France.

A famous example of the traditional French formal garden style described above is the Versailles Gardens located just outside Paris. King Louis IV hired landscape architect Andr Le Ntre to create the Versailles Gardens, in 1661. Versailles’s western side features gardens spanning 800 hectares or 400 acres. Not only do these gardens feature many costly ornaments, they also boast carefully cared for lawns and numerous blooming flowers. The gardens’ most fascinating feature are their 1,400 fountains. The garden was watered with water from the Seine River which was supplied by a pumping system. Still, there was never enough water to run all the fountains at once. As King Louis would enter the garden, the fountains would start. These days their hours of operation are restricted to Sundays.

Not going to France any time soon? You can still visit a traditional French garden just by stopping by the Conservatory Garden, located in the North side of Central Park in New York City.

Although the traditional formal garden style developed in France influenced garden designers throughout the world, French gardens are by no means all traditional in style. France has many less formal gardens, including the Giverney garden overflowing with blooming flowers as shown in Monet’s beautiful paintings.

Houseplants provide a great opportunity for interior design possibilities. Living plants will add a special touch to homes that are already well-designed with good furniture, paintings, and tabletop displays. Plants can be a beautiful decorative touch to add to your home. There are nearly endless options available when choosing your plants and their containers. Keep your overall decorating style in mind when you visit the nursery or garden center so that you choose plants and containers that will fit the dcor of your home.

When choosing a pot for your plant, analyze all of the different sizes, shapes, colors, and materials. It can be hard to imaging the possibilities when you select a plant in a black plastic nursery pot. You can repot your new plants into simple clay pots, providing a subtle earth tone and subdued design. To brighten a dark corner in your home, find a bright yellow ceramic pot. Patterned pots in plastic, metal, or wood can fit right in with the dcor of your home.

Consider the plant you’ve chosen when you buy a pot for it. If you’ve a lot of bonsai, for example, continue the Asian theme by selecting red ceramic pots. Vines will look great in easy pots, because the plants themselves are so complex. You can even choose humorous pots, like one with crocodile drawings, for one-of-a-kind plants like a Venus Fly Trap.

To add some interest to your container garden, choose pots in different shapes and sizes. Round pots are classic, while long rectangular trays can provide unity for a group of plants, and asymmetrically shaped pots add visual interest.

Choose your plants with attention to your overall color scheme. Choose plants with bright yellow or red flowers to add a splash of color to an otherwise restrained room. Or, continue the soft atmosphere by choosing a plant with deep colored foliage. Make sure that the flowers give you the effect you want. Many small blossoms can make a busy and active looking floral display. Huge, uniquely-shaped flowers make a bold statement.

When buying plants to decorate your home, you’ll need to decide on how many plants you want, and where they’ll be places. If you use many plants at different heights, you’ll add a sense of dimension to the room. Use a single huge plant such as a hibiscus tree in a corner to draw the eye across the room. A basket hanging from the ceiling has a different effect from a large tree plant on a pedestal.

By varying color, shape, and placement, you can achieve any affect you want with your houseplants. Combine the decorative elements in your home with living plants for a one-of-a-kind space. You can continue your interior design through your choice of plants and containers.

If your houseplants start branching away from the center and become leggy, it’s time to cut them back to encourage them to grow in the right directions. First, choose the stem that is in need of a trim. Then, use a razor blade or sharp pruning shears to make a cut straight across the stem. You should aim your cut for just above a node that is facing toward the center of the plant. If you prune a section that is at least four or five inches long, you can use this to start a new plant instead of just composting it. This is the simplest method of cutting back your plant, but it is not the only one.

Pinching your plants is another way to encourage positive growth. If you pinch out the center growth of a young plant, it will grow low, and spread outward along the ground rather than up. This center growth uses most of the plant’s resources, so by removing it you’re encouraging it to send resources to the outer edge of the plant. To be effective, you must start pinching back when the plant is still young. Otherwise, you’ll need to do more drastic pruning to get the effect you want.

You can also pinch your flowering plants to get more massive, more beautiful blooms. A plant with many flower blooms spends its energy equally across all of these blooms. When you remove some of the blooms, the remaining buds will grow larger, producing much more beautiful flowers. While you’ll end up with fewer flowers, the ones you do have will be beautiful and large. If you plan to use your flowering plants for cuttings, pinch back the flowers to help the plant produce bouquet-ready blooms.

Air layering is another way to control the growth of your plants such as eugenia myrtifolia. Use the air layering method to cut back long-stemmed, leggy plants, returning them to a superior size and shape. This is more often used in growing bonsai trees such as the Brush Cherry bonsai. Several inches below the lowest branches, make an incision in the stem, about two inches long and running vertically up the stem, about a third of the stem diameter in depth. Then, bind sphagnum muss around the cut, water thoroughly, and cover with plastic. If you water it regularly and keep the cut area covered, in about two months new roots will start to grow at the cut line. Then, you can cut the top of the plant, just below the new roots, and root it in a new pot. Then discard the lower portion of the old plant.

Different plants can be pruned at different seasons, so make sure that you know your plant’s stipulations before you begin cutting it back. For most plants, the optimal time to do this will be in the spring or fall. While many plants can withstand a huge amount of pruning, be careful not to remove too much at once.

There are a number of ways that professional gardeners propagate new plants. The main methods, which will be described here, are stem slicing and leaf slicing. Creating new stock from cuttings serves a dual purpose: obviously, you are able to produce more plants, but you are also able to trim back the existing plant, maintaining its appearance and health and preventing it from becoming overgrown.

To create cuttings, you rarely require specialized tools. Most of what you need can be found in the average household. You will need a number of pots in varying sizes, a sharp penknife or razor blade and if you think you’ll need them, a “dibble” and a tamper.

When you are setting cuttings, the same guidelines should be followed. The ideal propagating mixture is vermiculite and then normal potting soil is to be used once the slicing has struck roots.

The time that each slicing takes to develop a root structure will vary according to the variety of plant and the type of cutting. Generally, the minimum time to anticipate for roots to start is about three weeks, whilst others may take a much longer time.

To make a stem slicing, a section approximately four to five inches long is sliced with a diagonal cut just below a leaf node. One longer piece from an overgrown plant might provide multiple cuttings. Ensure that these cuttings, or “slips”, are made with a sharp knife or razor blade. Never use scissors as they will cause damage to the stem and rot will set in. A diagonal cut allows a greater exposure of the potential rooting surface. Any buds or excess leaves should be removed to encourage stronger rooting.

Select and fill the number of pots you require with the starting mixture. Make a hole for each slip with the dibble or a pencil, carefully place the slips into the hole and then gently press the mixture around the stem of the slip. Don’t use the slips themselves to create the hole as this will cause bruising and then rotting. Check that the base of the slip is in contact with the base of the hole to ensure successful rooting. When planting is complete, soak the slips in water either from above of below and then the pots should be covered with a glass jar or similar to prevent moisture loss. If you have a terrarium or a fishbowl that can be drilled, this will hold a number of pots at once, making handling much easier.

The planted slips should then be put in a shaded spot and kept moist. When the slips have a root structure approximately an inch or so long, they should be repotted into their own pots that have been filled with normal potting soil. This will be on average around three to eight weeks from the time the slips were planted.

You need to be patient when you are creating new plants from cuttings. Avoid the temptation of removing them from the starting mixture to check them as you may damage the roots. Wait at least three to four weeks and you will then be able to perform a test to see if they are ready. At this time, hold the stem at the base between your thumb and index finger and gently pull. If there is resistance, carefully dig the slip out and inspect the roots. If the roots of this slip are long enough for replanting, the other slips should also be ready as they should grow at roughly the same speed.

Check the cuttings at least once or twice a week to ensure that they are moist enough. At this time it is a good idea to grant them to “air” for a short time. When they are ready for transplanting, take the covers off, carefully transplant the new plants taking care not to damage the fragile root system and give them a thorough soaking. Keep these newly transplanted specimens in the shade for another couple of weeks to grant them to get over the transplanting shock, then place them in a sunny spot.

There’s no “best” time of the year for making cuttings from most home plants. Utmost care for newly propagated plants are ideal reached with this style of propagation is needed especially for plants like Impatiens, Coleus, Geraniums or Pelargoniums, Ivy and Philodendron.

Texas Phoenix Palm Decline (TPPD), also known as Texas Palm Decline (TPD), was discovered in Texas in the southern coastal region in the late 1970’s. TPPD is relatively new to Florida as it was first found in Florida in 2006.

Texas Palm Decline disease was discovered in Florida in 2006. It’s similar to Lethal Yellowing, a disease that’s been killing palms by the hundreds of thousands in Florida since the 1950’s. Researchers suspect an insect of spreading the disease from palm to palm by first feeding on an infected palm.

Texas Palm Decline appears to be moving in to the west central portion of Florida, ready to infect thousands of palms in the Phoenix family, including wild date palms, Canary Island Date palms, and edible date palms. These palms can be quite pricey - $5,000 to $10,000 each.

Another palm affected is the less high-priced but quite popular Queen palm. In addition the palm decline disease is suspected of jumping to a new species, the Sabal palm, which is also the state tree of Florida. Texas Phoenix Palm Disease has been recently confirmed in Pinellas, Polk, Hillsborough, Manatee and Sarasota counties in the west central region of Florida. This disease is expected to spread because of the number of palms bought, sold and shipped around Florida.

Signs of Texas Phoenix Palm Decline begin with the browning of the lower fronds, the death of the spear (the newest unfolded frond), and continue to the dropping of immature fruit, and the premature death of more fronds, flowers and fruit.

Eventually the palm will die as this palm decline disease is fatal. Many of the Texas Palm Decline symptoms described here might be the result of other causes such as lightning, overpruning, insects, herbicides and nutritional deficiencies. Only an expert can sort these symptoms out.

If you suspect your palm has Texas Palm Decline, call a palm expert or certified arborist . If they concur that the palm decline symptoms might be present,, they will arrange to have a sample sent to a lab for confirmation. If the tests confirm Texas Phoenix Palm Decline disease, remove the palm as soon as possible. It’s in the community’s ideal interest to prevent further spread of this disease.

If Texas Palm Decline symptoms exist on a palm, but the spear leaf has not died, the palm may be saved by injection of the antibiotic oxytetracycline Hcl. Treatment of palm decline must continue every 4 months for the life of the palm. This antibiotic may also be used as a preventive treatment on healthy palms when Texas Phoenix Palm Decline is known to occur in the area. The 4-month schedule applies.

When deciding how to decorate the interior of your home, plants can be just as important as furniture, because they drastically change the visual impact of the room. Plastic plants are very popular for this purpose, but artificial plants can collect dust, and may look a little silly to visitors.

Because of the drawbacks of artificial plants, why not try your hand at growing the real thing? Indoor gardening can be quite easy. Aside from the beauty of indoor plants, they also provide health benefits. After all, as we learned in grade school, plants clean the air by using the carbon dioxide we breath and producing more oxygen.

Many beginning gardeners become overwhelmed with trying to select and care for houseplants. If you’re a beginning gardener, here are some easy tips to help you be successful at growing a beautiful garden right inside the comforts of your own home.

Lighting is very important to the growth of home plants. Each type of plant has a requirement for how much light it will need. First, you need to decide which part of the home will be home to the new plants. This will help you decide which kind of plant will grow best. There are several plants which only require medium to low light, and are suitable for indoor gardening. Some common examples include Philodendrons, Boston ferns, African violets, Cyclamens, and Creeping Fig.

Another important task to consider is watering. Many beginning gardeners make the mistake of over-watering their indoor plants, which can harm the roots. You should research your specific plant, because each kind has varying water needs.

Most indoor plants will require the use of pots or other containers. You should make sure that the pot is clean before placing your new plant in it, which will prevent infection and encourage healthy growth. Pot size and other characteristics are also important, and will depend on the plant you select.

Humidity is another factor which can be difficult for the beginning gardener, but it is very important to your plants. The amount of moisture in the air affects the growth of your plants. During the morning, you should spray the plants with water from a spray bottle, which will provide them with much needed moisture.

Fertilization is another factor to take into account when choosing outdoor or indoor plants. Like watering, fertilization needs depend on the type of common indoor plant you have chosen. If you supply your plants with the right amount of light, water, and humidity, you might not need much fertilizer for your plants to thrive.

With these tips in mind, you can forego the plastic plants in favor of the real thing. They will add beauty to your home, and can be easy to grow if you choose the right plants.

No doubt, if you ever thought of constructing a shed, you will be surprised by the huge number of designs and plans that are accessible. You might have found a few you like but remember its better to find a shed plan no matter which style you opt. You may not be able to find plans to accommodate the exact kind you saw, but no doubt you’ll witness some very close to it. Also most frequently you can do some modifications. Even though there are so many unique styles they all have standard similarities .

The very first thing you must ascertain before you even consider buying a pattern is what is it going to be used for. Here are 5 popular shed designs that you may want to look into depending on the aim.

1.Garden Sheds
Likely the most favourite due to the fact that it is something nearly each home owner has a need of. Oftentimes garden tools and equipment are stacked away in the garage. This is ok as a temporary fix, but after a while it can create clutter. Not only that moving the equipment in and out could hurt your automobile. A superb style for a garden shed is one with a gable roof. This presents you a tiny bit of supplementary storage space up to. You can customise it by choosing the doors and window you desire and the size of the whole project

2.Storage Sheds
Very alike to a garden shed but a tiny well insulated. Most likely you’ll be storing items here that you truly want to shelter from the elements. Maybe you will have items that hold water or liquid that you don’t want to spill.. Moreover, for goods such as cloths or books and those types of things that moisture should not enter. Storage sheds are oftentimes established with a salt box style roof. The purpose is to grant more exposure to the sun.

3.Pool Sheds
Now we’re going to take matters up a new level with pool sheds. fancy. With the proper plans even a beginner can build one of these. There is more glass involved here in some of them. It might take a tiny more thinking and care when constructing these detailed sheds. They have the ability to range from being very simple to be used just as a change room along side the pool. There theres other types that can be quite fancy, nearly a conservative entertainment home. Some even have little kitchenettes in them. Again the choice will be yours as to how fancy you want to be, along with what the budget will take and how much space you’ve available

4.Barn Sheds
These are a genuinely different design but is reasonably standard. Your option of this one will depend a lot of the outward interior decoration of your home. Some individuals feel this shed style does not mix in well with ultra modern homes. On the hand they are best for the country or antique style household. There are a little bit trickier to establish, but not out of the expertise of the newbie.

5.Combination Shed
One of the refreshing types beginning to come out on the market and its a phenomenal concept. Its particularly useful if you need to hive away firewood. Essentially its a standard garden shed, with a open style leanto attached to it. The materials all match and one part blends in perfectly with the other.

No matter what your needs are or which style you have settled on, be sure to get a good simple to read and follow, set of plans.

The simplest definition for the word horticulture is the cultivation of a garden, Hortus, in Latin, means garden and cultura means cultivation. Garden cultivation is considered a form of art and, like all art forms, it has different styles.

Because of the largely flat topography, traditional French gardens use huge sheets of water for their reflective qualities or as impressive, artificial fountain displays. Here you’ll find a list of the main components of traditional, formal, French garden design.

* Yards are contained of square frames and constantly shuddered by neat, squared bushes

* Flowerbeds are also geometrical in shape rectangular, oval or circular.

* Parterres are an important feature of formal French gardens. These are vast elaborate geometric patterns created on the ground using colored dirt, stones and gravel or colored flowers. Parterres are often lined with boxwood, lavender, or rosemary. Parterres de broderies or rather, embroidery parterres, are magnificently elaborate. Visitors can view parterres from garden terraces.

* The water features are most often canals and large pools. Most of these water fountains have engines to operate them.

* Allees, meaning axes or rides, is the term used for the garden walks or pathways, bordered by trees or neatly clipped hedges that provided the framework of the French garden style. A fountain or accenting garden ornament of some kind is the usual destination of such straight pathways.

* French Garden Ornaments: In French garden designs, you’ll find a lot of statues, columns, trellises, sundials, birdbaths and more. Symmetrical placement occurs with these objects.

* Plants: Color is the foundation of the planting pattern. Most French gardens feature light, pastel colors with hints of yellow, red, orange, lilac and blue. Perennials are the best choice for gardeners.

As King Louis would enter the garden, the fountains would begin. These days their hours of operation are restricted to Sundays.

If you aren’t planning a visit to France, you can still get an idea of the traditional formal French garden style by visiting the Conservatory Garden in the northern sector of New York City’s Central Park.

Gardens in France have inspired designers from all around earth. France does also have gardens that aren’t as formal such as the Giverney garden, which is the subject of many of Claude Monet’s Impressionist paintings.
